National Public Radio

Employer's Perspective:
NPR supports our lactating employees as we help all our employees to balance work and family life. We focus on cultivating and maintaining a culture of health and wellness in all we do and provide comprehensive work-life benefits to our employees. We support the new mothers among our staff to make it easier and less stressful for them to return to work while looking after the health of the newest members of our NPR family. Because of the nature of our business, we sought to create a serene space separate, but easily accessible, from the bustle and openness of the newsroom and available to our staff at all hours.

Employee's Reaction:
There can be a million and one things to consider as a first-time mom returning to work full-time. Knowing that NPR supports working moms - with dedicated lactation rooms, resources and supportive programs - makes the transition much easier. The lactation facilities in our new building are comfortable, quiet and easily accessed. There is ample space for storing pumping supplies and milk; an outlet for charging; an armchair; and sinks for washing and rinsing. I go in with my laptop and continue to work remotely - it makes things so much easier.
