Thank you for your interest in the Carol A. Ryan Equity in Lactation Scholarship. Please find information below about the application.


Applicants must meet all requirements, have applied, and been approved to sit for an upcoming exam. For the September examination, scholarship funds will be used as reimbursement. Preference will be given to those applicants demonstrating a commitment to providing evidence-based care to traditionally underserved communities with limited access to breastfeeding professionals; bilingual candidates; those identifying with and living and/or working in an identified disparity group; and those demonstrating a financial need. DCBFC members are eligible and encouraged to apply.

Award Details

One (1) scholarship each in the amount of $660 (to cover 2022 examination fees) will be awarded.

Application Deadlines

For the September examination, completed applications must be submitted by August 28, 2022.

Application Process

Applicants meeting the above requirements must submit the following by the application deadline:

  3. Proof of payment for the September 2022 exam and proof of registration for the 2022 exam from the IBCLE to
  4. Two (2) letters of recommendation from individuals that can speak to the applicant's character, professionalism, desire, intent, and commitment to working with an underserved population. One letter must be provided by an IBCLC. Referees can submit letters directly to
